Veterans and Military Addiction Treatment in Huntington Beach

Veterans and active-duty service members may face challenges that are difficult to explain outside of military culture. Combat exposure, operational stress, traumatic experiences, chronic pain, sleep disruption, and the transition between military and civilian roles can contribute to substance use and co-occurring mental health concerns. Alcohol, opioids, benzodiazepines, or other substances may become ways to manage intrusive memories, hyperarousal, anxiety, depression, or emotional distress.

Beach View Recovery provides veterans and military addiction treatment in Huntington Beach for former service members across branches and eras, as well as active-duty personnel when clinically appropriate. Our integrated dual-diagnosis program addresses substance use alongside PTSD, depression, anxiety, chronic pain, sleep disorders, moral injury, and symptoms associated with traumatic brain injury.

Individualized treatment may include medical detox, residential care, PHP, IOP, CBT, DBT, EMDR, motivational interviewing, psychiatric support, medication management, and relapse-prevention planning. Care also addresses military-specific concerns such as reintegration, loss of purpose, guilt, shame, relationship strain, and nervous-system dysregulation. The goal is to help each client regain stability, strengthen healthy coping skills, and build a sustainable path forward.

Why Military-Informed Care Matters

Substance use and mental health concerns among veterans and active-duty service members often develop alongside combat exposure, operational stress, chronic pain, sleep disruption, traumatic brain injury, and the transition between military and civilian roles. Guilt, shame, hypervigilance, isolation, and loss of purpose may also make it harder to seek help or maintain recovery. Beach View Recovery considers these military-specific experiences when developing each treatment plan, helping clients address substance use and co-occurring symptoms within the full context of their service, relationships, and long-term goals.

Integrated Recovery Care for Veterans and Service Members

Beach View Recovery provides integrated addiction and mental health treatment for veterans and active-duty service members. Each individualized plan considers substance use, combat or operational trauma, PTSD symptoms, chronic pain, sleep disruption, moral injury, reintegration challenges, and co-occurring mental health conditions. Care may include psychiatric support, individual therapy, military-focused groups, medication management, trauma-informed treatment, and evidence-based services delivered at the appropriate level of care.

Trauma, Moral Injury & Reintegration
Individual and Group Therapy

Military-informed programming addresses combat and operational trauma, hypervigilance, avoidance, guilt, shame, loss of purpose, and difficulty transitioning between military and civilian roles. Clients may also explore relationship strain, work and social functioning, military identity, and symptoms that may be associated with traumatic brain injury.

Relapse Prevention and Continuing Care

Veteran-Specific Triggers & Coping Skills
Aftercare and Peer Support

Clients identify relapse risks such as intrusive memories, chronic pain, sleep disruption, isolation, relationship conflict, and difficulty adjusting after service. Treatment focuses on adaptive coping strategies, emotional regulation, structured discharge planning, and connection with outpatient providers, peer support, and community resources to help sustain recovery after structured care.

What Treatment Looks Like Day to Day

Each day in our veterans and military recovery program combines structured clinical care with support for trauma, emotional regulation, and long-term stability. Depending on the level of care and each client’s needs, programming may include morning check-ins and goal setting, military-focused process groups, individual therapy, CBT and DBT skills training, EMDR or other trauma-focused interventions, relapse-prevention education, and evening peer support. Treatment plans are reviewed regularly to support symptom stabilization, improved daily functioning, stronger coping skills, and continued progress after treatment.

Trauma, PTSD, and Moral Injury

Treatment addresses combat exposure, operational trauma, intrusive memories, hypervigilance, avoidance, guilt, shame, and ethical conflict. Trauma-informed therapy may include CBT, DBT, EMDR, and other evidence-based interventions that help veterans process difficult experiences, regulate emotional responses, and develop healthier coping strategies.

Reintegration and Role Transition

Returning to civilian life or adjusting to a changing military role can affect identity, purpose, relationships, and daily functioning. Treatment helps clients navigate reintegration challenges, rebuild structure, strengthen social and vocational skills, and develop a sense of meaning beyond substance use.

Sleep, Chronic Pain, and Nervous System Regulation

Insomnia, nightmares, chronic pain, and persistent hyperarousal can increase emotional distress and relapse risk. Clients learn behavioral pain-management skills, sleep-supportive routines, mindfulness practices, and nervous-system regulation techniques. When appropriate, care may also address symptoms associated with traumatic brain injury in coordination with qualified medical providers.

Family Support and Continuing Care

With the client’s consent, treatment may include family education, therapy sessions, and support for rebuilding relationships affected by trauma or substance use. Discharge planning begins early and may involve outpatient providers, peer-support resources, case management, and community services that help clients maintain progress after structured treatment.
